A bookshelf inside Yvonne’s conceals a steakhouse with ten tables. Zebra Room serves prime rib, martinis and lobster Savannah below the better-known restaurant on Winter Place. Dinner comes with a little difficulty finding the door, but the host handles that part.
The restaurant opened in April 2026, adding a smaller dining room to COJE Management Group’s collection of Boston restaurants. It occupies space previously used for private events beneath Yvonne’s. The address is 4 Winter Place in Downtown Crossing, though arriving there is only the first step. Check in upstairs and someone will take you through.
Zebra Room has ten tables behind the bookshelf
The room is small enough that its size is part of the reason to book. COJE describes a ten-table restaurant with a 1970s influence, and the design goes well beyond putting a vintage lamp in the corner. Red upholstery, patterned surfaces and carpeting fill a space built around sitting down for dinner.
In Boston magazine’s opening report, COJE CEO Chris Jamison described wanting a restaurant and dining bar that differed from the group’s more nightlife-oriented rooms. Contemporary art shares the walls with the patterned decor. It is a much more enclosed setting than a large steakhouse dining room, which is worth considering when choosing somewhere for a birthday or a dinner for two.
The hidden entrance is fun, but it does not make this an unannounced party or a password test. Zebra Room operates as a restaurant with reservations, a dress recommendation and a host who expects to meet you.
Prime rib with a little Locke-Ober history
Tom Berry, who oversees COJE’s culinary operations, developed a steakhouse menu with references to Locke-Ober, the restaurant that previously occupied the building. One is the 1875 salad, named for Locke-Ober’s founding year. Another is lobster Savannah, a dish associated with the old restaurant.
The current menu puts a 12-ounce prime rib at $85 and a 10-ounce flat iron at $65. The two-pound baked lobster Savannah is $115, with sherry cream, mushrooms, cheese and crumbs. Those prices put dinner firmly in planned-evening territory, particularly once drinks and sides join the order.
There are smaller ways into the menu, including a $39 French dip made with prime rib. Onion beignets come with caviar, while the potato flattie gets Comté and Boursin. Even the supporting dishes have fairly substantial plans for the evening.
Martinis and the bill
The drinks include a Dirty Martini Au Poivre with black pepper and blue-cheese olives, plus a strawberry-and-rhubarb version of a Negroni. There are spirit-free drinks, too. You can make this a steak-and-martini dinner without everyone at the table ordering either one.
The menu lists a 3% kitchen-staff fee, separate from a tip for service staff. Factor it into your budget along with tax and gratuity. If you are comparing dinner options, look at the whole order rather than the price of one cut of beef.
How to get a table
According to the restaurant’s reservation policy, requests open up to 14 days ahead. Submit through its website, then wait for the team to confirm or suggest another time. A submitted request is not yet a confirmed table. COJE lists the usual reservation release for parties of up to six.
For a party larger than six, contact the restaurant rather than dividing everyone across separate reservation requests.
Dinner runs Tuesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. There are limited walk-in bar seats, so an unplanned visit is possible, but not a reliable arrangement for a group. The restaurant encourages polished attire. If your party needs step-free access, ask about the complete route to this downstairs room before booking.
