A hidden restaurant beneath Yvonne’s

The Zebra Room opened April 15 inside the same building as Yvonne’s, located at 4 Winter Place in Downtown Crossing. The space sits below the main restaurant and is accessed through a concealed entrance inside Yvonne’s lower level.

The room has just 10 tables and a small bar, making it one of the smaller steakhouse-style dining rooms in Boston.

A smaller, more intimate steakhouse format

The Zebra Room was developed by COJE Management Group, the team behind several Boston restaurants and nightlife venues.

The concept focuses on a compact layout with table service and a dining-first approach. The space was previously used for events and has been redesigned as a full restaurant.

Interior design with a 1970s influence

The dining room features red tones, patterned walls, upholstered seating, and layered textures throughout the space. Artwork from multiple contemporary artists is displayed alongside vintage-inspired lighting and decor elements.

The design references a 1970s-style interior, with low seating and soft materials used across the room.

Menu includes steakhouse staples and historic references

The menu is led by chef Tom Berry and includes a selection of steaks, seafood, and side dishes.

Steak options range from flat iron cuts to wagyu New York strip sourced from U.S. producers.

Other menu items include:

  • Lobster Savannah, served with sherry cream sauce
  • Onion beignets with caviar and crème fraîche
  • Dry-aged pork chops and rack of lamb
  • Baked potato flattie with cheese and herbs

Several dishes reference Locke-Ober, which operated in the same building for over a century before closing.

Cocktails and wine program

The bar program includes variations on classic cocktails such as Negronis and Manhattans, along with a freezer martini service.

The wine list focuses on American producers, with additional selections from regions including Burgundy and Tuscany.
