Police were called to the hotel around 7:42 p.m. on Wednesday after reports of an emergency.

When officers arrived, investigators say MacDonald became confrontational and allegedly threw objects, striking a UMass police officer in the face. He now faces an additional charge of assault and battery on a police officer.

Inside the room, officers found the victim with injuries described as consistent with a violent assault.

MacDonald pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Thursday in Eastern Hampshire District Court. He is being held without bail.
