Tailgating at Gillette Stadium wins approval for 2026 World Cup

Can’t make it to the game? Don’t worry, there are watch parties all over Boston.
Policy reversed after earlier ban
Initial guidance for the Boston matches stated that traditional tailgating would not be permitted. That messaging has now been reversed.
Local organizers said there are no venue or public safety restrictions preventing tailgating, clearing the way for fans to return to the usual pregame setup.
Miscommunication with FIFA clarified
The earlier restriction stemmed from a misunderstanding tied to guidance around the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Boston organizers initially believed FIFA had a tournament-wide policy banning tailgating. After clarification, that is no longer the case, and the policy has been updated.
Parking will be limited despite tailgating
Even with tailgating allowed, parking capacity will be significantly reduced.
About 5,000 parking spots will be available for World Cup matches, compared to roughly 20,000 during New England Patriots games.
Fans are being encouraged to use alternative transportation options, including special event trains and dedicated bus service to the stadium.
More details are expected closer to the tournament.
