SoWa Power Station
The SoWa Power Station at 550 Harrison Avenue is the old plant that powered Boston’s streetcars. It went online in 1892 for the West End Street Railway as the largest power station in the world. The engine room later became a trolley barn. Work that started in 2018 put in 20-foot windows and new floors, and the hall now takes private events.
Two stories cover more than 30,000 square feet. The main floor seats 1,050, or 1,500 at a reception. The mezzanine seats 125, or 250 standing. The bar is in-house, with a beverage director and a sommelier. Dinner comes from a list of Boston caterers. The main lot sits beside the building.
