Mai
Mai on Northern Avenue combines a Japanese izakaya menu with French cooking techniques. Handrolls are made to order and passed over one at a time, meant to be eaten straight away while the nori is crisp. It’s worth keeping your attention on what’s just arrived rather than waiting for everything to make a group photo.
Beyond the rolls, the menu includes miso butter cod, duck confit and A5 Miyazaki Wagyu with yakiniku sauce. Sake and sake-based cocktails accompany the food, with lunch and dinner service giving you two ways to visit. Reservations and walk-ins are both welcome. Come for handrolls alone or leave room for a cooked dish; the kitchen has more going on than the sushi counter.
