Charles Playhouse

Charles Playhouse on Warrenton Street has had several lives since the building began as a church in 1839. It became a theater in 1958, when an actors’ company formed by Boston University graduates moved in. Olympia Dukakis was among its early members. Later, long-running productions of Blue Man Group and Shear Madness made the address familiar to generations of Boston theatergoers.
