Carmella’s Market
Carmella’s Market is the Italian-American corner store at 86 Cottage Street in Jeffries Point, East Boston. The space has been a neighborhood food shop since 1927, first as Gloria’s Food Store, later under the Russo family and Jerry Del Prete, then Clark Moulaison Jr., who renamed it Carmella’s in 2012. Nick Moulaison Sr. has run it since 2022. The counter still turns out subs, salads, and breakfast sandwiches on sliced cold cuts. The item people ship and talk about is the stuffed cherry pepper: imported provolone, Genoa salami, ham, and prosciutto packed into a pepper in seasoned olive oil, sold hot or sweet in jars. Come for a sandwich, leave with peppers, and you are in the same Jeffries Point shop that has fed this corner for close to a century.
