Alibi serves cocktails inside the former Charles Street Jail, now The Liberty Hotel at the foot of Beacon Hill. Original bluestone floors and brick cell walls share the room with couches, low lighting and celebrity mug shots. The building supplies plenty to talk about before anyone opens a menu. Come for a drink with friends or settle in for food from chef Lydia Shire’s Italian-inspired menu, which also draws on Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cooking. In warmer months, the off-street patio becomes an espresso martini garden. Reserve a table if you want somewhere to sit together; the lounge is set up for a night out as much as a meal.
