Boston Public Garden Swan Boats Open To The Public
The Boston Public Garden Swan Boats are officially back for the season! After taking a year off for the first time in 144 years, the boats are now open to the public with several safety procedures in place.
Launched by Robert Paget in 1877, the swan boats were introduced to Bostonians after he was inspired by the German opera Lohengrin, where a medieval knight crossed a river on a boat drawn by a swan.
The boats are operated today by the descendants of Paget who carry on the historical tradition each year, aside from last season when they closed to the public for the first time due to the pandemic. Several safety measures are in place to maintain social distancing such as mask requirements and a limited number of passengers per boat.
Missed by many, the boats are sure to be a Boston favorite heading into the summer!
