Wally’s Cafe Jazz Club

Wally’s Cafe Jazz Club puts live music in a small, narrow room on Massachusetts Avenue in the South End. Founded by Joseph L. Walcott in 1947 and still family-run, the club gives students from Boston’s music schools a place to play alongside experienced musicians. The calendar includes jam sessions as well as nightly sets, so check the schedule if you want to hear a particular group. There is limited seating, and arriving early gives you more choice about where to stand or sit. Come for the music and be ready to listen closely: the band is right there. The entrance is the red door at 427 Massachusetts Avenue.
