The Brattle Theatre

The Brattle in Harvard Square is a place to see a film you missed decades ago as readily as a new release. Its repertory series group movies by director, genre or subject, giving you a reason to return over several nights. Foreign films, restorations and independent releases share the schedule. Movies have played here since 1953, and the nonprofit Brattle Film Foundation now runs the theater. Seating is general admission unless an event says otherwise, so an advance ticket does not reserve a particular seat. Check the calendar for double features and special events, and arrive on time: the Brattle does not run the long block of ads you might expect before a movie.
