Somerset Club, private clubs in Beacon Hill

Somerset Club

The Somerset Club is a private club at 42 Beacon Street, in the granite David Sears house it has occupied since 1872. It took the Somerset name on April 1, 1852, after earlier years as the Beacon Club. A group organized in 1826 became that club. The building is light gray, with two turrets, and it has no sign. Between Walnut Street and Spruce Street, you find it by the number 42.

Public areas call for a suit jacket and tie, or a dress, skirt, or pantsuit. The Grill Room and the Billiards Room allow a jacket without a tie. Denim, shorts, and athletic clothes are not allowed. Phones stay out of the dining rooms and other public rooms. Room 6 is where you can make a call.
