Sofra
Sofra is at 1 Belmont Street in West Cambridge, where Belmont meets Mount Auburn. Ana Sortun and pastry chef Maura Kilpatrick opened it in 2008 as the Oleana group’s bakery, cafe, and small market. They cook from Turkey, Lebanon, and Greece: a meze bar of cold salads and spreads, flatbreads and lamb shawarma when you want lunch, and a pastry case that is usually why someone is standing in line. The morning bun with orange blossom glaze is the one people ask for by name, and the Turkish breakfast is the plate if you are sitting down. Behind the counter they sell house preserves, prepared food, spice blends, and pantry staples, so plenty of visits are for something to take home. Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. There is a second Sofra in Allston at 210 North Harvard Street.
