El Pelón Taqueria
Fried plantains are part of what makes El Pelón’s El Guapo burrito worth knowing about. They join grilled steak, rice, black beans, Jack cheese, salsa, lettuce and sour cream inside a flour tortilla. At the Brighton taqueria, you can also order cornmeal-crusted cod tacos with chile mayo, pickled cabbage, cucumbers and limed onions.
Vegetable choices include the calabacitas burrito, filled with roasted butternut squash, zucchini, tomato and onion, and a vegan tamale with poblano peppers and corn. This branch is on Commonwealth Avenue near Boston College. If you become a regular, there’s a small tradition to join: wear an El Pelón T-shirt on your travels, send in a photo, and it may end up on the restaurant’s wall.
