Central Square Theater
Central Square Theater at 450 Massachusetts Avenue grew out of the Nora and Underground Railway Theater. The company calls itself the oldest female-led theater organization in Greater Boston, and with MIT it makes science plays through Catalyst Collaborative@MIT. Lee Mikeska Gardner is the artistic director, and Catherine Carr Kelly is the executive director.
The theater says its programs reach more than 35,000 people a year, counting the shows, the youth classes, and the community work. Next is The Getaway Driver, October 29 through November 22, drawn from the true story of Katherine Ann Power, who spent years on the FBI’s Most Wanted list, and Clare Schroeder. In February the company stages Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia with MIT.
