Baleia serves Portuguese-inspired food on East Berkeley Street, with seafood taking up a substantial part of the menu. Salt cod bolinhos come with saffron mayonnaise, clams steam in vinho verde, and shrimp Mozambique gets chili, lemon and beer. There is plenty beyond fish, including duck rice with chouriço and piri piri chicken with fries. You can build dinner from individual dishes or have the whole table share the Explorador menu, a selection chosen by the kitchen. Portuguese wines run from Vinho Verde to the Azores, while the cocktails use ingredients such as ruby port and Licor Beirão. Save room for pastéis de nata, the small Portuguese egg custard tarts.
