American Repertory Theater
The American Repertory Theater makes plays and new musicals in three rooms. The home stage is the Loeb Drama Center at 64 Brattle Street in Harvard Square, a 556-seat theater finished in 1960. Mexodus plays there from December 4, 2026, through January 10, 2027, a hip-hop musical about the Underground Railroad that ran south into Mexico.
This fall the rock opera 1972 is at Farkas Hall on Holyoke Street, from October 27 through November 22. In May 2027, Life on Mars opens at the Goel Center for Creativity & Performance in Allston, directed by Diane Paulus and brought to life by the music of David Bowie. This is the company that developed and premiered Waitress, and Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) went from the Loeb to Broadway’s Longacre Theatre.
