21st Amendment

The 21st Amendment sits on Bowdoin Street in Beacon Hill, close enough to the State House to work into a day of sightseeing or an after-work dinner. The name refers to the repeal of Prohibition, and the menu is firmly in pub territory: clam chowder, chili, burgers and fish and chips made with IPA batter.

There’s more to order than a burger and a beer. The short-rib grilled cheese makes a substantial sandwich, while the Beacon Hill Burner pizza adds banana peppers and hot honey to pepperoni. Salads and a vegetable quesadilla give the table other directions to go. The pub opens at 11:30 a.m. daily; its late bar closing time shouldn’t be taken as a promise of late kitchen service.
