Dunkin’ Donuts Was Originally Called ‘Open Kettle’

In 1950, Dunkin Donuts opened its doors, for the first time, in Quincy. Originally called ‘Open Kettle’ where the idea of a donut and a cuppa coffee was born.

The Rise to Popularity

Within a couple of years, the name was changed to Dunkin’ Donuts and it didn’t take long for its popularity to spread like wildfire, reaching far beyond Quincy’s borders – first locally, then nationally, and now globally. Dunkin’s has become the go-to spot people looking for a basic cup of coffee.

The reasons behind its popularity? Well…

First off, Dunkin’ Donuts is all about consistency. It’s a weird way to think about it but Bostonians are in a relationship with DDs. And the way we appreciate consistency in our personal relationship void of drama, we want the same in our coffee and donuts. LOL

The Boston Connection

Why the obsession with Dunkins here? Like I said above, it’s a relationship. It’s not just a donut joint for us; it’s a part of our daily routine. In many households in Boston you don’t stop by without asking if people want you to bring coffee. And it’s a given they mean Dunkins.
