A gold coin and an old-fashioned elevator gate stand between you and CocoMango Speakeasy. The bar is inside Top Mix Bar & Kitchen near Alewife, where a host can point you toward the entrance. Once inside, the restaurant outside has done its job. You have arrived somewhere else.
The room takes its cues from a 1920s Cuban nightclub, with velvet seating, palm-frond decorations and a chandelier made from coconut shells. It is a small cocktail bar with food, music and a fairly elaborate sense of occasion. Going out for a drink can involve more than finding two empty stools.
How CocoMango Speakeasy ended up inside Top Mix
Owner Joseph Correia opened CocoMango in 2025, within his Cambridge restaurant at 50 Cambridgepark Drive. As he told Boston magazine at the opening, the extra space had initially suggested a café. A cocktail bar better suited his experience and his interest in the speakeasy era.
The name comes from a considerably less historic source: Coco Bongo, the nightclub in the 1994 Jim Carrey film The Mask. That gives you some idea of the approach. The old-fashioned entrance is part of the evening’s entertainment, rather than evidence of a Prohibition operation that somehow survived beside Alewife.
Cubano rangoons and a steak for the table
The posted menu is laid out like a newspaper, complete with illustrated advertisements. Look past those and you will find Cubano rangoons filled with ham, Swiss cheese and shredded pork, served with pickle-mustard aioli. They cost $16. Tuna wonton tacos, at $24, pair raw yellowfin tuna with mango pearls, avocado cream and soy-lime sriracha.
Other choices include guava-lime chicken wings, salt cod fritters and grilled chicken pinchos. The El Secreto flatbread combines chicharrón, sweet plantain and arugula. For a more substantial shared order, a $142 tomahawk sampler brings a 24-ounce steak with yuca fries, fried cheese and plantains.
Read the ingredients before ordering for a mixed group: the mussels include chorizo, and the corn ribs come with Parmesan. Seafood on the plate does not necessarily mean there is no meat in the dish. The grilled octopus also includes chorizo, along with roasted cashews. Ask the kitchen about allergies and substitutions when booking.
Choose the night before choosing the cocktail
CocoMango describes its drinks and food as Latin-inspired, and music is part of its identity. Before making plans, ask what is scheduled for your date. A live performance and a long catch-up over drinks call for different evenings, even when you like both.
The restaurant’s website links directly to its reservation system. Use that link when booking rather than assuming a table at Top Mix includes entry to CocoMango. They share an address, but you want the reservation to name the room you are going to.
Check the total before paying, including any admission charge and cancellation terms. The opening arrangements included a prepaid cover; a fee quoted in a 2025 story should not determine your budget for a night out now. Your dated booking details are the place to look.
Getting there and eating late
The address is in Cambridge’s Alewife area, away from Harvard Square and Central Square. Put 50 Cambridgepark Drive into your directions so that everyone arrives at the same Top Mix. For a group, send the venue name as well as the street address.
CocoMango’s restaurant listing gives the dress code as smart casual and lists public-lot parking. Call 617-945-0584 about access requirements or a particular night’s arrangements before making the trip.
The website lists the bar until 2 a.m. and the kitchen until 12:45 a.m. Confirm your date when reserving, especially for a midweek visit. If food is part of the plan, book with time to order before the kitchen closes. The gold coin will not persuade the cooks to stay late.
