The Farmers Behind the Counter
Julie and Shawn Hennigan, the husband-and-wife team behind The Farmhouse Meats, live and work on a farm in Pembroke, MA. Their hands-on approach includes everything from animal care to direct sales. They raise their cattle on open pasture and finish them on non-GMO corn for 30 days to maximize flavor — all without antibiotics, artificial growth hormones, or pesticides.
In addition to their own herd, the Hennigans partner with like-minded regional farmers who meet their strict standards for animal care and sustainable land management. Their goal: better meat, better farming, better food.
Their philosophy fits right into Boston’s growing slow food scene — from late-night eats to farmer’s market finds.

Black Angus beef — pasture-raised and flash-frozen for freshness
Heritage Berkshire pork — rich, flavorful, and humanely raised
All-natural chicken — no antibiotics, no hormones
Farmstead cheese, cultured butter, salami & jerky
Free-range eggs, subscription boxes, and bundle packs
Most items are available fresh or frozen, and many products are vacuum-sealed to preserve flavor and shelf life.

The Farmhouse Meats is open five days a week inside Boston Public Market. You can browse in person or pre-order online for pickup at the market or other regional locations.
They also accept SNAP/EBT and allow “pay at pickup” during online checkout — making it easier for more people to access high-quality local food.
