Symphony Hall

Symphony Hall is home to the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Boston Pops, with a calendar that gives you more than one way to hear the room. Choose an orchestral concert, a Pops program, or another scheduled performance, and leave a little time to look around before the music starts. Opened in 1900, the hall was designed with physicist Wallace Clement Sabine’s help to control how sound travels and lingers. The shallow balconies, coffered ceiling, and statue-filled niches all contribute. Look above the stage for Beethoven’s name; the other composer plaques were left blank. Scheduled tours offer another way to see the building, though dates and access depend on the performance and rehearsal calendar.
