Umami Omakase
Umami Omakase in North Cambridge builds dinner around a chef’s selection of sushi, sashimi and cooked courses. Chef Gary Lei worked at Uni before opening Umami in 2019, and his menus leave room for ingredients beyond fish: Japanese A5 wagyu, foie gras, truffle and caviar appear alongside toro and hand rolls. The restaurant offers an 18-course meal and a shorter 15-course option on selected evenings, with sake pairings available separately. Japanese rice and fish are central to the cooking, but the menu moves between the sushi counter and the kitchen. It suits an evening spent following the chef’s choices, especially if you want meat and richer cooked dishes mixed into your sushi dinner.
