Hollywood star Paul Mescal falls for Fenway and declares himself a ‘big Red Sox boy’

Paul Mescal has picked a side in America’s most obsessive sports rivalry. It is Boston.

The Irish actor says he now takes baseball “very seriously” and has become a committed fan of the Boston Red Sox, a development that surprised even him.

In a recent British GQ interview, Mescal was asked what people would be most shocked to learn he takes seriously. His answer came without hesitation.

“I take baseball very seriously now,” he said.

The conversion happened last year during his first visit to Fenway Park, where Mescal attended a game while sitting near the dugout. The experience, he said, locked him in.

The interviewer pressed him. Red Sox fan?

Mescal confirmed it.

He said his interest started before Fenway, watching MLB highlights on his phone every morning, but the in person experience made it real. Boston’s Irish reputation might seem like an easy explanation, but Mescal dismissed that idea.

“Partner connection, huge,” he said.

Mescal is reportedly dating Gracie Abrams, who has personal ties to New England and performed in Boston last summer during her tour. Abrams has previously referred to the region as home.

The Red Sox endorsement lands as Mescal’s career continues its sharp upward climb. His latest film, Hamnet, has been generating early Oscar buzz and recently won Best Drama at the Golden Globe Awards, further solidifying his position as one of Hollywood’s most in demand actors.

Still, it was baseball, not awards, that brought out his most decisive statement.

“Red Sox fan, yeah,” Mescal said. “I’m a big Red Sox boy.”

We’ll will take it.
