3 Boston spots for igloo dining and heated yurts

Dinner outside in a Boston winter takes some persuasion. A private enclosure and a heater help. These three Boston spots offer different versions of the idea: rooftop igloos with harbor views, patio yurts for a meal with friends, and a winter setup beside a skating rink.

Igloo dining is seasonal, and these are places to check for winter bookings, not a promise of an available table tonight. As of September 2026, Ballers lists its winter attractions as closed from March through October. The Envoy and Bowery publish information about their enclosures, but confirm dates through the venue before making plans. All three are in Boston, with no out-of-town drive required.

Rooftop at The Envoy offers heated igloos overlooking Boston Harbor and the skyline, with seasonal cocktails and plates to share. Its holiday booking page also lists private heated iceboxes and a glass-enclosed main bar. Those are separate settings, so be specific when you enquire. A reservation somewhere on the rooftop is not necessarily a reservation inside your own igloo.

This is the one to consider when the view and a few drinks are the point of the evening. The holiday page takes event enquiries but does not give a standard igloo capacity, price or session length. Ask for those details with your quote, plus the menu available for your booking. If you want a full dinner, settle that before inviting everyone. The heated main bar offers another way to enjoy the rooftop, but it will be a different evening from sitting together in a private enclosure.

The Bowery Bar has three heated yurts on its Lower Mills patio, each taking up to eight guests for a maximum of two hours. Its published yurt guidelines list minimum spends of $100 for weekday lunch, $150 for Sunday through Thursday dinner, and $200 for Friday and Saturday dinner or weekend brunch. Those amounts cover the whole yurt. At a $200 minimum, eight people need to spend $25 each before tax and gratuity; two people need to spend $100 each. Same yurt, rather different evening.

A $50 deposit goes toward the bill, and spending below the minimum leaves a rental charge for the difference. Select the yurt experience and outdoor seating when booking. Bowery requires 48 hours’ notice for a refund and lists a 6.5 percent cancellation processing fee. It can cancel in extreme weather. Check the terms shown for your chosen date, and take its advice about dressing warmly even with the heater running.

Ballers Boston Seaport combines its winter igloos with a synthetic skating rink, fire pits, hot drinks and seasonal food. That makes it a different proposition from a long restaurant dinner: you can plan an outing around skating and something to eat afterward. Its Seaport location page says the winter experience closes from March through October and returns the following winter. The sports venue being open does not mean the igloos are open.

Before choosing a date, look for the winter opening announcement and the specific igloo booking terms. Confirm the group limit, session length and food offering, and ask whether skating requires a separate reservation or payment. The current location page also advertises padel and pickleball, so check what you are actually booking. A court reservation will not get dinner sorted. For a group with people who would rather watch than skate, ask how the seating works before buying rink time for everyone.

Before booking igloo dining in Boston

Compare the total cost for the number of people actually coming. A deposit credited to dinner is different from a separate rental fee, and neither tells you whether tax and gratuity are included. Ask what happens to the bill if someone drops out.

Check the weather policy and the menu together. You want to know whether the booking can be cancelled in bad conditions and whether there is enough food for the meal you have planned. For anyone who needs step-free access, ask about the route onto the patio or rooftop and the entrance to the enclosure itself. Keep the coat.
