A Historical Journey
Back in 1973, Vernon Street Studios began when a group of local artists, including luminaries like Clara Wainwright and Maud Morgan, approached the Rogers Family. They proposed an innovative idea: artists sharing the upper lofts of the building, which was primarily used for foam manufacturing. The Rogers Family agreed, and thus began Vernon Street Studios. Over the decades, the studio has grown to host over 100 artists, making it Somerville's premier art hub and fostering a community that has influenced the city's artistic landscape significantly.
Open Studios Event
The Open Studios event isn't just a sale; it's a festival of creativity. Visitors can explore works ranging from paintings and photographs to intricate jewelry and unique furniture. Exhibition and Documentary
Coinciding with the open studios, the Nave Gallery will host a retrospective exhibition starting December 3rd. This exhibit will feature a diverse collection of works from Vernon Street's past and present inhabitants, including artists like Ariel Freiberg and Steven Cabral. The exhibit aims to not only display art but also document the studio's history through various historical documents.
