Ignite Festival 2021

Saturday, October 2nd from 6-10PM - Union Square Plaza

The Somerville Arts Council is presenting a Nibble/ArtsUnion event called Ignite: A Global Street Food, Fire & Light Festival this upcoming Saturday, October 2nd from 6-10PM at Union Square Plaza.

Ignite Festival will celebrate Union Square’s sizzling food landscape where you can expect and evening filled with a variety of international foods, fire throwers, different types of entertainment, and a celebration of global culture. You will be able to enjoy the numerous goods local food vendors have to offer as well as interactive light installations and performers. Some of the performers include an all-female mariachi band and the Branches Steel Orchestra!

Other performances include a dance exhibition by Nepali Maruni and Arabian belly dancing. The night will end with a closing show by the Boston Circus Guild. Don’t forget to visit the Tiger head photo booth and numerous activities Ignite has to offer! Food vendors include: Union Square Pizza, Masala Square, and Nibble Kitchen’s (try their frozen desserts!). Additionally, Union Square restaurants will be featuring Ignite-themed specials to honor the festival!

This year, there will be a new slew of innovative light and projection installations which will be located in the parking lot and park behind the Independent restaurant. DJ Brother Cleve will make sure all guests enjoy their time by playing a variety of international tunes from K-pop to Brazilian funk. The charismatic Marcus Santos will also make sure the crowd is pumped! Lightning design will be done by Todd Sargent and the evening will be full of “raucous art” according to Rachel Strutt, Cultural Director.

The picture you can find to the left is a schedule of the performers that will be in the Fire Square Performance Area for the night in the Union Square Plaza parking lot. This is tentative to change due to the weather conditions so we recommend that you follow the Facebook page for updates!

Join the Somerville Arts Council, City of Somerville, and Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone on this celebration! There is a tentative date in case the event needs to be re-scheduled and this is Sunday, October 3rd.
