Cambridge Pride History Stroll

July 13, 2021 | 54 Church Street in Harvard Square | Free

An exclusive history stroll in Cambridge will be taking place to showcase the city’s extensive LGBTQ+ history, signifying the inaugural event of the forthcoming Cambridge Museum of History and Culture. The five-part installation on Harvard Square business storefronts is one of many planned series of events across Cambridge to raise awareness of the museum and its mission.

The exhibit will formally launch with a small reception on July 13, sponsored by the newly-opened Bonde Fine Wine Shop and The Black Donkey Project, at 54 Church Street in Harvard Square. Guests and residents are encouraged to come down and walk around the Square throughout the summer to view the displays. The Office of Cambridge City Councilor E. Denise Simmons, the Cambridge Museum of History and Culture, and the Harvard Square Business Association are launching the installation, in partnership with the City’s LGBTQ+ Commission and the History Project.

People can also view the display online at the Cambridge Museum’s website (link at the bottom of the page). There are five locations throughout Harvard Square in which the pictures on the website have been installed. You can scroll down to see all of the pictures, broken down by the five different locations where you can find them.

Councilor E. Denise Simmons stated β€œ...we felt it was time to start letting the public learn more about who we are, what we’re doing, and what kinds of exhibits folks can expect to see in the museum once it opens. The idea of creating a β€˜history stroll,’ which takes some of the elements of this history and cultural museum and places them in prominent parts of the city, grew out of our enthusiasm to share our work with the community.”

The exhibit will be on display throughout the summer at 1430 Massachusetts Avenue, 8 Church Street, 50 Church Street, 54 Church Street, 33 Brattle Street and 25 Brattle Street and may move around the Square, if necessary.
