Baller Brutal Buildings 🏒 In Boston

Boston’s City Hall @ Gov Center

Some people don’t like Brutalism. Not me. I love it.

HISTORY
Boston's brutalist buildings embody the city's history. These concrete structures, representing the period known as New Boston in the 1960s and 70s, shape Boston's public life. Government Center, with groovy buildings like the ribbed concrete Government Service Center, Boston City Hall, and the John F Kennedy Federal Office Building, stands at the heart of the city. Other brutalist buildings Harvard Science Center and the Josiah Quincy School.

While some regard these bold structures as classic examples of American architecture, they also have controversial reputations. People think they are ugly. To each his own.

THE PEOPLE
Famous architects like Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer, and Josep Luis Sert played a significant role in driving the brutalist style forward in Boston. We are also home to Le Corbusier's only North American building, the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, completed in 1963.
