Stacey Kelleher “Heart Was Broken” Out Now!

This week I had the pleasure of sitting down with Stacey and discussing her amazing journey into music, self-discovery, and of course her new single ‘Heart Was Broken’ which was released on March 18th.

Stacey is an indie-pop singer, songwriter and producer currently based in Nashville. Her sound is unapologetically authentic and when it comes to song writing she really does wear her heart on her sleeve. She spoke of how the process of song writing was almost like ‘therapy’ in the way that it gave her a space to reflect on her emotions with curiosity instead of judgement, allowing her to overcome and navigate through them. Stacey was born in New Hampshire but created her sound in Nashville. She went to Berkley College of Music and did a major in song writing which is what inspired her and gave her the confidence to start pursuing a career in music. Since then, she’s released 8 singles and an EP, with over 75,000 streams and over 4,000 monthly listeners on Spotify already!

We touched on certain struggles and setbacks Stacey has faced in finding her own sound and identity in both her private life and on stage. She speaks of moments where adhering to the mainstream has been tempting and seemingly less lonely and moments when comparison has got the better of her (we all know the one!) In 2020 when covid hit Stacey spoke of a zoom call she had with her song writer, Emily Gurklis, where she was able to open up about these feelings of inadequacy and ‘you never know with me’ was born. Stacey describes this song as a ‘declaration’ to herself, an oath almost, that she will be ‘unafraid’ to be herself and that she’s not ‘changing’ for anyone. She describes it as a ‘fearless’ track which at the time marked the start of this new chapter of her life. Stacey’s songs are unintentional diary entries of crucial stages in her life and we are backseat drivers on this amazing journey with her!

‘Heart was broken’ is her newest single and is inspired by her love for her boyfriend. She wrote the song about her boyfriend’s heartbreak from retrospective angle and how it has led to them finding their love. Its relatable and it flips traditional love songs on their head. It gives us a fresh perspective and a hopeful reminder to trust in the process and that even something as painful as heartbreak can lead you too something as beautiful as love. Whether you’re going through it or out the other side this is a song for everyone! We love her and we know you will to so go show her some love! Like, subscribe and keep an eye out because there’s more to come in may!
