Dunkin Donuts š© Was Originally Called āOpen Kettleā
In 1950, Dunkin Donuts opened its doors, for the first time, in Quincy. Originally called āOpen Kettleā where the idea of a donut and a cuppa coffee was born. .
The Rise to Popularity
Within a couple of years, the name was changed to Dunkinā Donuts and it didnāt take long for its popularity to spread like wildfire, reaching far beyond Quincy's borders - first locally, then nationally, and now globally. Dunkinās has become the go-to spot people looking for a basic cup of coffee.
The reasons behind its popularity? Well...
First off, Dunkin' Donuts is all about consistency. Itās a weird way to think about it but Bostonians are in a relationship with DDs. And the way we appreciate consistency in our personal relationship void of drama, we want the same in our coffee and donuts. LOL
Another think Dunkinā does right is the variety and having its pulse on the changing taste trends. They have expanded to breakfast sandwiches, bagels, and and different iced drinks. They also do regular partnerships with beloved brands like Oreos which people love.
The Boston Connection
Why the obsession with Dunkins here? Like I said above, itās a relationship. It's not just a donut joint for us; it's a part of our daily routine. In many households in Boston you donāt stop by without asking if people want you to bring coffee. And itās a given they mean Dunkins.
$$$
Dunkinā has gone from a little local coffee and donut shop, opened in 1950 to a billion dollar conglomerate today. In 2019 alone, Dunkin' Donuts raked around $1.37 billion in revenue.
